10th Annual Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship
McCoy and Phillips Charge to Victory
Ellison McCoy and Blanton Phillips shot a final round 66 for a two-day total of 133 and a one shot victory over three other teams in the 10th Annual Mid-Am Four-Ball Championship.
McCoy and Phillips, from Greenville and Simpsonville, got off to a hot start making eagle on the par five 3rd hole and birdie on the par four 4th hole and par three 5th hole. The tandem then got on a par roll making six in a row before a birdie three on the 12th hole. Another birdie on the par four 17th put the team at eleven under par and in the lead for good. McCoy and Phillips made a two-putt par on the 18th hole for a final round of 66 and a two-day total of 133.
Finishing in a tie for second one shot back were Todd White and Jim Burgess (Moore and Kingstree), Walter Todd and Mike Gravley (Laurens and Greer), and the 2003 Defending Champions Kevin King and David DuPre (Bluffton and Columbia)
The 2004 SCGA Mid-Am Four Ball Championship was played on the par 72 ~ 6915 yard Cassique course at the Kiawah Island Club in Kiawah, SC., also the host of the 2004 UBS Cup. The field consisted of 66 teams playing four-ball stroke play. The Mid-Am Four Ball is one of 17 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 10th year of existence. The 2005 Championship will be played at Musgrove Mill in Clinton, SC.
