SCGA Events & Precautions Regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

MEMORANDUM

TO: SCGA Members

FROM: The Desk of Executive Director, Biff Lathrop

DATE: March 23, 2020

SUBJECT: SCGA Events & Precautions Regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Dear SCGA Members,

In light of the heightened global concerns surrounding COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the South Carolina Golf Association is closely monitoring Health and Government resources.

COVID-19 is something that the entire golf community is taking seriously, especially with respect to the health and well-being of our tournament participants, staff, member clubs, and volunteers, as well as any potential impact on SCGA Events.

At this time, the SCGA has decided to temporarily suspend all scheduled competitive and non-competitive events through May 10. We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate any updates with our member clubs and their golfers.

Anyone who is currently registered for a SCGA, SCJGA or SCJGF event scheduled to be held prior to May 28 will receive specific communication about that event. All events scheduled after May 28 are currently continuing as scheduled. Future updates on specific events will be sent through event specific email lists, posted on event web pages, and will be pushed out through all SCGA, SCJGA, and SCJGF social media channels. Please also check out our COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions page regarding rescheduling, refunds, withdrawals, etc.

The SCGA, SCJGA and SCJGF staff will be contacting host clubs that will be impacted by the change, and event rescheduling will be on a case-by-case basis. This suspension is specific only to SCGA, SCJGA and SCJGF events and has no effect on these host clubs regarding their member or other outside play.

Preventative Measures

The following are a number of safety precautions that all of us should take into consideration as pro-active health measures for themselves and others:

  • Wash hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water or use an alcohol-hand sanitizer
  • Cover your mouth and nose when you cough, or sneeze
  • If you don’t have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve
  • Stay at home when you are sick

These measures may seem simple, but they are very powerful ways to protect yourself and others from getting sick, especially during a heightened period where health and wellness are top of mind.

Individuals interested in learning more can also find regular global updates related to COVID-19 distributed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) along with the World Health Organization (WHO).

The health and wellness of all involved at SCGA events is our top priority. We thank everyone for their cooperation with the outlined precautionary measures as we learn more about, and react to, the ongoing developments around COVID-19.

Should anyone have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us by phone (803) 732-9311 or by email - /Blog/scga-events-precautions-regarding-covid-19-coronavirus

Sincerely,
